Overview

PeterPicture1“I think you must know that our players enjoy very much performing under your baton – very rare indeed with choral directors!”

Peter Tomlinson, Orchestral Manager, Cheltenham Chamber Orchestra

Peter is a skilled and sympathetic conductor who has worked regularly with singers aged 5 to 90, training, rehearsing and preparing them for performances and concerts. Major groups include:

  • Berkshire Youth Choir from 2005 to 2009 (www.berkshiremaestros.org.uk) This outstanding choir of 15 to 20 year olds with a national reputation as Choir of the Year under its former conductor was Peter’s responsibility when he took over as Head of Voice at Berkshire Maestros, the young musicians’ trust for music education in Berkshire, UK.
  • Berkshire Girls’ Choir and Berkshire Boys’ Choir from 2005 to 2008; Berkshire Young Voices from 2008 to 2011. These single voice and mixed voice junior choirs for singers aged 9 to 14 were the training choirs for developing voices in the Berkshire Maestros Voice Department.
  • Oxfordshire Youth Chamber Choir from 1983 to 1996. This wonderful youth choir with singers aged 15 to 20, drawn from schools across Oxfordshire, was formed with a dear colleague Anna Haxworth, an outstanding teacher and musician. As a member choir of the European Federation of Young Choirs it toured regularly to Europa Cantat festivals in Europe.
  • Bicester Choral and Operatic Society from 1990 to 1993. An adult community choir that sang major operas and choral works.
  • North Cotswold Chamber Choir – Guest conductor since 2010 (www.nc3.org.uk) This is a small chamber choir of very committed and experienced amateur singers who live in and around the Cotswold town of Chipping Norton, giving concerts locally.
  • Chipping Norton Choral Society from 1997 (www.cncs.org.uk) This amazing adult community choir has a membership of 100 singers with the most enlightened and positive attitude to their singing, and we have a lot of fun. They are prepared to tackle the toughest repertoire and I have the privilege of working with top soloists and professional instrumentalists from the region and from London.

“Thank you so much for your patience, your thoroughness, your humour and the fact that I never leave a rehearsal without feeling I have learnt something. Each week is a pleasure.”
